Michael Giacometti is an avid bushwalker, rock-climber, writer, and some-time paddler of desert streams. He grew up in Melbourne and learnt his crafts in Victoria’s alps, beaches, rivers and deserts. He has walked extensively in Victoria, Tasmania, Central Australia, New Zealand, Patagonia, and the Himalaya, and worked in outdoor adventure and education as a guide, instructor, facilitator and coordinator.
Michael’s fascination with the arid regions of Australia grew during a fossil dig in the Tirari Desert (east of Lake Eyre) with the South Australian Museum in 1995. He has lived in Central Australia for the past three years.
This is his first attempt to walk across the Simpson Desert.
